3 changes to kitchen design post COVID-19

Hygiene has taken center stage in the kitchen. The “new normal” is making us prioritize safety, cleanliness, and storage in the kitchen more than ever.

The kitchen is seeing changes in storage, easy-to-clean appliances, and technology.

Changes in Storage

Going to the supermarket during the pandemic has been tough, from long lines, limited entry, and stores simply running out of food and essentials. People want bigger appliances and a larger pantry to hold more food so they do not have to go to the supermarket as often.

Easy-to-Clean Appliances

Cabinets without handles that open with push-to-open technology are seen significantly easier to keep clean.

Appliances made with stainless steel are preferred since they significantly reduce bacteria from growing on their surface.

Technology

Most dishwashers clean dishes with high temperature water and soap – the perfect virus killing combination – and some large families are considering having a kitchen with two dishwashers to maintain everything sanitized.

This presents designers with a challenges to classic kitchen layouts.

The “new normal” has increase the number of household who are now cooking at home. The kitchen, which is the hub of many households, is seeing increase usage, but that increase in usage also means concerns about its cleanliness. Many people avoid the kitchen because of the hard work it takes to maintain it, add keeping it sanitized on top of everything else, and you sure will see demands for solutions to keep the kitchen sanitized that are fast and easy.
